Kokua
The Hawaiian word kokua means help or assistance.
With Hawaii’s beautiful but fragile environment, we (meaning residents and visitors) need to give our kokua to protect Hawaii's wildlife and keep Hawaii pristine for future generations. This means not only keeping it litter-free, but also honoring and protecting the wildlife and fauna.
Protected Wildlife
Know Before You Go: Hawaiian Turtles, Monk Seals, and Spinner Dolphins are species protected by both federal and state laws. Touching, interfering with their natural movement, or swimming close to these animals carries fines up to $50,000. Please observe these beautiful animals from a distance.
Swimming with wild dolphins has been a tourist attraction for some time. However, as of September 2021, swimming with Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins in the wild has been banned.
